Canadian Boating License

Boating license cardBoatingLicenseExam.com is a resource for boaters looking for safe boating information and tips on how to get your official boating license.

It's the Law! All Canadian Boaters are required to carry a Pleasure Craft Operator Card* when operating motorized vessels - regardless of age, size of boat or engine horsepower. A Pleasure Craft Operator Card is required when operating power boats and watercraft in all Canadian provinces. Boaters caught without the card face a minimum $250 fine.

To obtain your boating license you must first pass the boating license from a Transport Canada accredited provider, such as BOATsmart!® Canada.

Need to get certified? The official Transport Canada boating license exam is available online. Boaters who take the boating license exam online can complete the official safe boating course and open book exam from home, and no supervisor is required. Print a temporary card immediately when you pass, and your permanent Pleasure Craft Operator Card (sometimes referred to as a boat card) will be mailed in 4-6 weeks. Once obtained, your Operator Card is good for life!
